Using Messaging for Custom Research Mobile Apps
February 20, 2026 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
This 1-hour, non-technical workshop will introduce researchers to UCLA Messaging, a campus service that can send study-related notifications directly to participants through custom mobile apps. Using the NIH-funded UCLA Oralytics oral health app as an example, we’ll show how messages like reminders, tips, and “just-in-time” behavioral nudges can help participants stay engaged between visits and better follow study protocols. We’ll focus on concepts rather than code—how messaging can support your study goals, the types of messages you might send, and how OARC can partner with your team to design and implement messaging in your own research apps.
